Madison team come close to Gold

19 08 2008

Argentina’s Juan Curuchet and Walter Perez took the gold. They had collected 8 points, one more than silver medallist Spain and two more than bronze-winning Russia. All three teams were one lap in front of the others.

Keisse and De Ketele started well, picking up points in the intermediate sprints for Belgium.

They eventually had a total of 17 points, more than any other team, but had failed to take a bonus lap during the race.

At the end of the race, it was all or nothing for Belgium. If they managed to take a bonus lap, they would take the gold. If they couldn’t, they would end in fourth place.

East Fleming Keisse tried his best and took half a lap, but the Dutch team brought the field back.

Actually, they were very close to GOLD. They had to lap the peloton, but, oh, well. Luck wasn’t on our side.
