First of all, welcome to this blog “Belgians in Beijing”. This is supposed to be a follow-up of the achievements of the Belgian team during the ‘2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing’. We may not have the biggest team of all but we are proud to compete with this to our standards ‘big’ group of brave representatives of Belgium. It’s been 30 years since we last had this big of a delegation of competitors like this year. Ultimately 96 members signed on to the Belgian Olympic Team and they are going to try to achieve their best result possible. They all want to do their small but brave country proud, and if there’s one specific thing you could remember about Belgium is that the people over here still live with that little hope to get that tiny moment of glory to which our athletes have lived up to a very large part of their lives. They fought their way to come to Beijing and they will keep on fighting with strength, hope and a lot of willpower.
“All I can do is to send our athletes a message of good luck. I believe in every single one of them. If you make it to the Olympics, in one way you’ve already won for yourselves. You have fought hard to get here, You’ve already made a lot of people at home proud. All you can do now is do your absolute best and don’t give up whatever it takes. This is the moment you have all dreamed of so badly. Go on and take your chance. Good luck!”
