Golden Tia!

23 08 2008

She did it! Tia beat the absolute topfavourite Blanka Vlasic and won the GOLD for Belgium!

GOLD FOR TIA

The Last of the Belgians

23 08 2008

Just a handful of Belgian athletes can be seen today. They will be the last to show us their talent.

  • For the High jump fans can shout Tia Hellebaut to the top, the European champion in the High Jump. Can she teach Blanka Vlasic a lesson? If luck is on her side Tia has a great shot to claim the gold.
  • Three Mountainbikers will try their best on the difficult track in Beijing. Can one of them clinch another medal. Roel Paulissen, Sven Nys and Filip Meirhaeghe (silver medal, Sydney 2000) will certainly aim to do so.
  • Last but not least, the 4×400 m Men’s Relay team will be fighting to finish their laps even faster. They already ran a national record in the semifinal, can they repeat that stunt. Or will they surprise and claim a medal like the Belgian silver girls?

Will Belgium earn its first medal?

22 08 2008

As I speak, the belgian olympian devils are competing against Brazil for the bronze medal? Belgium hasn’t earned a medal yet. Will the footballteam give their country the honour they deserve?

We will find out in a few hours.

€ 5000 reward if they get the bronze

22 08 2008

If the Belgian footballteam beats Brazil today, each of players will get a reward of 5000 Euros (gross).  If they get 4th place, it will only be € 2500. If they conquer the bronze medal the team will be given the medal after the final match is played.

Also Vincent Kompany and Marouane Fellaini don’t have to despair because they also will get to share in the festivities.

Can the boys do the same?

22 08 2008

Today the 4×400 metres Men’s Relay Team will get the chance to show what they are made of. Can they do the same like the relay girls or do they have to pull a rabbit out of their hat? In a few hours we’re going to know the answer.

Captain Gevaert leads her team to final

21 08 2008

Kim Gevaert and her team performed excellently in the 4 x 100 metres relay. In the heats, they had to compete against giants like the U.S. and Great Britain. Surprisingly the Belgian team was first to finish and advance to the final on Friday. There’s is a big chance that the Belgian team will win a medal. The U.S. is no longer a candidate because of the failed baton exchange between torri edwards and Lauryn Williams.

In the final however, the absolute favourite – the Jamaican team – awaits Kim Gevaert and co. They didn’t have any trouble getting a place in the upcoming final.

Jos Lansink & Cumano advance to Superfinal

21 08 2008

Jos Lansink has done an excellent job in the final of the show jumping. Along with his horse Cumano he delivered a faultless parcours, that makes him one of the top favourites to claim the gold. If he meets the expectations he may deliver Belgium their first medal of the Games.

Relay team gets some action today

21 08 2008

Today the girls of the 4×100 metres Relay Team will try to qualify for the final. Together with Jos Lansinck in the jumping event and Tia Hellebaut in the high jump, they’re pretty much the eye-catcher of the day for Belgium.

Tia Hellebaut makes no mistakes

21 08 2008

Our representative in the High Jump, Tia Hellebaut, did an exquisite job in the qualifications. She has reached the final and did not make any mistaking. Three other girls did the same. Top Favourite Blanka Vlasic wasn’t one of them. Tia Hellebaut is still competing for the medals.
